Overcoming Church Hurt
1 Peter 5:7 KJV - Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
The church is a place where you find healing and build relationships with God and people. Unfortunately, it can also be the source of deepest hurts and pains.
I interviewed a man few years back who was badly hurt and said, nothing can take him to church again. I tried everything to make him realize how he must not forsake the assembly of fellow believers. He insisted, he was done with church and that his home becomes his church.
In Psalm 145:18, the Bible says, "The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, To all that call upon him in truth."
Some have equally because of just little issues changed their place of worship. A man stopped going to Church because his name was written in small letters. Whaoooo, all apology fell on deaf ears.
He healeth the broken in heart, And bindeth up their wounds - Psalm 147
That you're reading Morning Showers this morning, I know you equally have a story to tell. Whatever situation you find yourself in today, throw all your cares, anxieties, hurt, pain, disappointment, and abuse on God as He commands us to do in 1 Peter 5:7 because He cares for you.
Healing church hurt begins with acknowledging that you’ve been hurt, desiring to be healed by God, and desiring to forgive others.
You can change your belief system and create a world where God is a priority in your life, and you see people through His eyes. This morning, let go of any hurts anyone has hurt you in the Church.
When you are hurt by your church relationship and you suddenly drift away from your once cherished fellowship and relationship, these three things happens:
1. A shift to self makes you selfish and self-reliant to resolve the issue. This does not work.
2. By losing faith in God, you place your faith in yourself and your limited abilities. This will eventually wear you out and make you frustrated.
3. Isolation is the motive of the enemy in order to attack you. Remember the prodigal son. Sometimes, you can't win your battles alone!
There are no perfect churches or perfect people. We live in a fallen world where pain exists. and because of this, people, even church leaders are prone to hurt others intentionally or unintentionally.
It is easy to find a group of people who have also been hurt and chat about what happened, who did what, and why each of those people hates the church.
The enemy loves this kind of pity party because the angrier you are, the more he tells you that Christians are bad, the church is bad, all they want is your money, and pastors are horrible people.
The devil's ultimate goal is to destroy your fellowship with God and God’s people. Hebrews 10:25 tells us “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Have you stopped attending church services because someone offended or hurt you?
Beloved, don't hesitate, your healing process must start today. Run away from conversations that sow seeds of discord, slander, demean, gossip, or spread hurtful words about the people that hurt you. This will delay your healing.
Good morning. Your day is blessed!
Stay in Christ.
